OBITUARY  MISS E. D. GIFFIN 31 July 1985

One of Manildra’s much loved pioneer women, in the person of Miss Enid Doreen Giffin, died at the age of 89 years at the home of her nephew John Giffin of 24 Old Orange Road, Manildra, on Wednesday July 24 1985.

Enid was the last surviving member of the family of the late Alex and Sarah ‘Cissie’ Giffin of Ainsdale Manildra.

A true Christian and a valiant woman, Miss Giffin dedicated her life to caring for her aged parents and other members of her family.

She was a woman of high principal and ideals, a devoted member of her church and community, being for many years a very active person in the organisations for Church, C.W.A. and Red Cross etc. There was no generation gap with her and she enjoyed the company of the young and had a host of close friends.

This was borne out in the affection she gave her nephews and niece and their families, the love they bore for her was much demonstrated by the fact that in the last few years of her life she was given so much love and warmth, whilst living with her nephew, John Giffin, and his wife Marion and their children.

Until that time she had been able to live in her own home in Cudal Street, Manildra and enjoy those things she always enjoyed: good reading, the company of her friends and her interest in the community.

She is survived by her niece Helen (Mrs Ray Thompson of Sydney), nephews John Giffin, his wife Marion and their children, Ian Giffin and his wife Bernadette and their children, both of Manildra. She was predeceased by brothers Keith, Hilton (Johnnie), Wilfred (Bill), Geoff and her only sister Eileen, by many years.
